2010 President’s Letter
2010 is now upon us and your Board of Directors is hard at work planning the events for our summer season! There is always room in the calendar to add activities that would interest you and your family and I encourage you to call or email me, or any board member, with your ideas.
Attending Club meetings, enjoying activities sponsored by the Club or volunteering on one of the Club committees is a great way to get to know your neighbors. Where else have any of you lived where you’ve had the opportunity to meet so many of your neighbors? I know in the places that I’ve lived, Killdeer Island stands out in that category.
You’ll be receiving periodic emails from me updating you on the planned meetings and activities and also on some currently unscheduled events that may be planned throughout the season. For instance, is anyone interested in a Community Yard Sale where we each set up our tables on our own property on a common date? The Club would pay for the ad, make the signs, and open Club property for parking and restroom use. Members would staff the Club and have snacks and drinks available for our thirsty customers. If there’s
enough interest, this is a possibility.
Another idea is to get smaller groups with similar interests together for a few field trips (Non Killdeer Island Club paid). How about a trip to Boston’s North End to tour the Italian Markets? I hear that Michele Topor’s walking tour is great, check the website at http://www.northendmarkettours.com or ask me for the information at one of our gatherings. An impromptu night out for drinks and listening to music (KIC member Bob Murawski’s band rocks!), a trip to one of the local casinos, or a s’mores night on the lake at a Club member’s house are all possible events to consider.
These are great ways to get to know the people in our little community! I encourage all of you to join our Club and to please consider a membership for each adult in your household. I look forward to getting to know you this season and while my main form of communication right now will be by email, for those of you without email don’t despair, our own Mary Freytag has volunteered to keep you updated on the important dates that will be happening on the island. I’m looking forward to seeing you at our first event, Killdeer Island Cleanup Day,
Saturday May 1st, or any of the other events or meetings this season.
Keep an eye on the message board as events near.
All the Best,
Patty Farino
